Daisy, Lost Golden Lab/Shepherd Mix, Has Been Found
Daisy the dog, a native of California, was recently found after having been missing since August 14 from Newark Liberty International Airport. Daisy was found near the airport with a torn ligament in her leg. She's lost 11 of her 50 lbs. A $1,000 reward was offered for her return. Her owners have flown in from California to reclaim her.
Groups of volunteers worked to find Daisy including Rescue Ink (www.rescueink.com).
Daisy has a Facebook page to visit for updates: Bring Daisy Home.
Bonnie Folz, the Northeast Rescue Coordinator for Pharaoh Hound Club of America reported the following in an email:
Daisy was lost during a stop-over flight at Newark Airport. The airport dog walker took Daisy out of her crate to potty her but attached her leash to the ring of her dog tags and not the collar, there was a loud noise at the airport that spooked her and she took off. They were able to track Daisy and where she went through the surveillance videos but she is now gone. The owner lives in California and the owner's mom, Fran (who contacted me) is in Maine. From what I'm told, the folks at the airport and airlines have been extremely helpful in trying to recover Daisy, but I'm not sure how much they are doing outside of the airport. There have been two sightings by the same person. The first was Friday, August 15, a day after Daisy went missing, and the next was Sunday, August 22, both at Elizabeth Avenue and Weequahic Avenue by the park in Newark. Being dog friendly, Daisy approached someone who was walking her two dogs. Unfortunately, one of this persons dogs doesn't do well with other dogs so she shooed Daisy away. She then saw one of the fliers posted and called in both of the sightings. A tracking dog team was brought in to track Daisy's scent and I'm told the tracking dogs picked up her scent and took them over a half hour away on foot. I'm waiting for the last track location, but Daisy could be miles away from there by now. These folks have no one, other then the folks at the airlines, to help them. Please, if anyone is able to help with Daisy's search, please contact me. Thanks.
