Kent Place Elects South Orange Resident Beverly B. Mills as President of the Board of Trustees

Kent Place School, an independent, nonsectarian, college-preparatory day school for young women, is pleased to announce the election of Beverly B. Mills to the position of President of the Board of Trustees, effective July 1, 2011. Mills will be responsible for overseeing the Board on financial management of the school, strategic planning and consulting on governance issues.

Mills worked as vice president, staffing manager in the Middle Market and Financial Services Group for Chemical Bank in New York for 12 years. A member of the Kent Place Board of Trustees since 2003, Mills has served on the Executive Committee as board vice president in 2008 and as chair of the Committee on Trustees since 2005. She is also a current member of the Kent Place Parents’ Association, where she served three years on the Executive Board and as treasurer for the annual Spring Fling event.

Mills is an ordained Elder and Deacon for the Prospect Presbyterian Church in Maplewood, NJ, where she was a former Sunday school teacher and chair of the Christian Education Committee. Mills also served as a member of the Director of Christian Education’s Coaching Team and was a former board member of the Program for Parents in Newark, NJ.

Mills holds a BA from the University of Virginia. She is married to Stephen C. Mills and is the proud mother of two daughters, a Kent Place 2009 graduate and current senior.
“The election of Beverly Mills to the President of the Board of Trustees of Kent Place School and her willingness to serve in this critical position will help ensure the success of our school and its mission,” said retiring Board President, John C. Chrystal. “Her passion for women's education, commitment to Kent Place and demonstrated expertise, leadership and guidance give me reason to have great confidence in the future of Kent Place. We are extremely fortunate to have someone as well qualified and dedicated as Beverly leading our board.”
