William "Bill" Burks, formerly of Maplewood, died on July 28 at Kindred Hospital in Wayne. He was 53. Visitation will be held on Aug. 1 from 1pm-8pm at the McCracken Funeral Home, 1500 Morris Ave., Union. A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Michael's Church in Union on Aug. 2 at 10am. Burks graduated from Columbia High School and was inducted into the Alumni Soccer Hall of Fame. He had a long career with the West Milford school district, where he was an assistant vice principal. He was also active in various programs and committees in the district. Burks greatly enjoyed sports, and was a fan of the Boston Celtics, San Francisco Giants and Green Bay Packers.
