A Salute to Easter Headwear

A sampling of some of the styles at St. Andrew & Holy Communion on Sunday.

Easter was back in fashion on Sunday in South Orange. Girls in frilly dresses and boys in pint-size navy blazers—and one dashing boy in a fedora—searched for eggs under the sweeping pink branches of a weeping willow on the lawn of St. Andrew and Holy Communion on South Orange Avenue. Inside the church, spring colors and a rich legacy for finery complemented a traditional service highlighted by music and dance. A full choir (and children's choir) was backed stylishly by an instrument orchestra of brass, wind and string. The joyful grace of sacred dancers added a modern spin to the Easter celebration.

The Rev. Sandye Wilson, rector of St. Andrew and Holy Communion, played the timpani drums. Afterwards, she greeted parishioners at the doors of the church in a bright orange ensemble and hat that would make a milliner proud. Patch photographer Marilyn Lehren tips her hat to the high fashion.
