Bike to Work Week is Happening Now
May 16-21 is National Bike to Work Week, and special events are planned in South Orange and Maplewood.
Update: Bike To the Train Day in Maplewood and South Orange is postponed until Thursday, May 20, 6 to 9 a.m., because of the forecast for rain for Wednesday. Extra bike racks have been set up.
The first annual South Orange Maplewood Bicycle Coalition (SOMbike) Bike to Work Week is scheduled for May 16- 21. As part of National Bike To Work Week, both towns issued proclamations in support of the initiative, and SOMbike urges everyone who can to bike to the train stations and their jobs or try cycling for fun and fitness.
South Orange Village President Doug Newman and Maplewood Deputy Mayor Fred Profeta were scheduled to kick off BTWW by leading bike rides through the two towns this past Sunday. May 19 has been designated as Commuter Ride To The Train Day, and free coffee, water bottles, juice and cookies will be provided to all participants from 6 to 9 a.m. All riders will be eligible to win prizes donated by local businesses. Extra bike parking will be available. The event will be held rain or shine.
