Will South Mountain Parents Rally at BOE to Save Gibbons's Job?
There's a reorganization meeting tonight for the Board to elect officers, but the main draw is the vote on contract renewals for non-tenured employees.
The Board of Education will vote tonight on offering contract renewals for 2009-2010 to its non-tenured staff, and South Mountain School and Annex principal Thomas Gibbons is not on the list submitted by Superintendent Brian Osborne.
Large numbers of parents are expected at the meeting to show their support for Gibbons, who wrote a letter that was circulated via e-mail last week to notify the school community of his employment status.
Gibbons is completing his third year in the school district and would become tenured if he remained through the next school year.
The meeting starts at 7:30 p.m., and topping the agenda is a "reorganization meeting," in which newly elected members—in this case, the three incumbents Mark Gleason, Jennifer Payne Parrish and Wayne Eastman—are given the oath of office. The Board also elects officers and could potentially have a new president. (Gleason is currently president.)
