Incoming freshmen will report to school on Sept. 3.

The school district has announced the date for freshman orientation at CHS. On Thursday, Sept. 3, activities are planned for incoming freshmen at Columbia, offering them a chance to meet teachers and staff, and become familiar with the building.

That evening, parents and guardians are invited to join the incoming class at a 7 p.m. information session at the school.

The full release is here as PDF. The text from the release is below.

Dear Parents/Guardians and Students of the Class of 2013:

On behalf of the staff at Columbia High School, I want to welcome you to the Columbia High School family!

We know this is an exciting time and a big transition for both students and parents. We would like to help make your progress through your four years at CHS as smooth and successful as possible. To help that process, we have planned orientation activities for incoming freshman students on Thursday, September 3, 2009. We hope these orientation activities will answer questions you have about high school and help make you feel part of our family.

FOR INCOMING FRESHMAN STUDENTS:

Orientation: Thursday, September 3, 2009, from 8 a.m. to 3:01 p.m.
Students should report to the Auditorium at 8 a.m.
The morning session has been planned to help students feel comfortable with the high school, meet the teachers and staff, as well as to take care of some “new student business.”  Please note that this orientation is for incoming freshman students only.  The doors to Columbia High School will open at 7:50 a.m. for this day.

The student orientation will consist of the following:
• Introduction of administration, dean of students, guidance staff and teachers
• Short presentations by selected staff members
• Distribution of student/parent handbooks, hallway  lockers and student photo identification cards
• Opportunities to:
o Meet with fellow classmates
o Walk through the student’s schedule to see where classes are located, learn the layout of the school and meet their teachers
o Visit the Student Activities Fair where freshmen will be able to sign up for various sports and extracurricular activities

FOR PARENTS/GUARDIANS:

Parents and guardians of incoming freshmen are invited to attend an information session on Thursday evening, September 3, 2009, at 7 p.m. in Columbia High School’s Auditorium. Parents and guardians will have an opportunity to meet members of the Columbia High School Administrative Team and guidance staff, find out about the high school and have questions answered. Freshman students are invited to attend with their parents/guardians! The program will last approximately 90 minutes.
