CHS Grad Is Top Female Finisher at Newstead 5K
Juliette Blevins CHS '76, crosses the finish line at 21:30.
Scores of people of all ages and abilities, with and without strollers, showed this morning in South Orange for what turned out to be a great weather day for a 5K.
Juliette Blevins, CHS '76, was the top female finisher at 21:30. When posing for a picture, she wished her daughters were present — but a cross-country meet got in the way (it seems good running genes "run" in the family!). She was, however, delighted to represent the "51-something crowd" with her top woman's time.
Mark Belasco crossed the finish line as the winner, at 17:10, with Jim Sonneborn coming in second at 18:42. Richard Gladstone, a top 5 finisher, was clad in the most interesting footwear Gladsoles (see picture in the gallery).
There were plenty of happy, eager and exhasuted children placing for 1st in their age groups, as well as volunteers to offer water and sponsors to offer goodies that promoted healthy fun.
Proceeds from the Newstead 5K benefit the ACHIEVE Foundation which provides grants to teachers in the South Orange-Maplewood School District.
We're hoping to add more captions tomorrow, but let us know if you find yourself in the photo gallery!
