Columbia HS Team Heads to State Championships
CHS Varsity and JV Robotics are headed to the state competition
Not only does it look fabulous, but this shiny marvel of electro-mechanical circuitry is crushing its competition.
This high-performing robot was designed, created and programmed by the Columbia High School Varsity Robotics team. The team's robot finished on the winning alliance against 36 of the best robotics teams in New Jersey at Livingston High School Dec. 15. That stellar performance and others have qualified the team to advance to the state championship at the New Jersey Institute of Technology on Feb. 9, where it will battle five other top teams for the state title.
Not to be outdone, the JV team also qualified to advance to the state finals, competing as the finalist alliance at a Piscataway meet on Saturday, Jan. 12, and bringing home a third place finish in the Inspire Award category.
Ultimately, the CHS team hopes to advance to the World Championship in St. Louis in April, where Columbia High School walked away with top honors two years ago. The team is coached by CHS physics teacher, Allan Tumolillo.
The team, robot, and Tumolillo are South Orange's Villagers of the Month for January.
