Documentary on Seton Hall Pirates' '89 Championship Run Released
"Band of Pirates" is available on DVD.
Does March Madness make you nostalgic for John Morton, P.J. Carlesimo and Seton Hall's glory in the late '80s and early '90s?
“Band of Pirates – The Story of Seton Hall’s Magical Ride to the NCAA National Championship Game,” a documentary marking the 20th anniversary of the men's basketball team's 1989 championship run, was released on DVD today.
The 1988-89 team had been to its first-ever NCAA tournament the year before and lost two 1,300-point scorers to graduation. But the team was ranked nationally for most of the season, capping it off with an improbable run in the NCAA tournament that ended at the national championship game. (The team lost in heartbreaking fashion in overtime to Michigan, 80-79.)
The 60-minute documentary includes footage of the Pirates and exclusive interviews with players, coaches, administrators and sports writers including Star-Ledger columnist Jerry Izenberg. Click here to view the trailer and mull the $25 purchase.
