Donaldson Hearing Date Changes, Reportedly

The district has not yet confirmed the date change

The Donaldson hearing scheduled for Steven Cohen has been postponed until mid-July, according to numerous sources. The district has not yet confirmed or replied to inquiries. It is not clear if Kathleen McCort's hearing has also been rescheduled.

Parents and students in the district spread today's news quickly via email, facebook and twitter. According to several parents who are close to the source, Cohen's hearing will take place on July 16, when a regular Board of Education meeting is also scheduled.

Patch will continue to update this story as more information becomes available. We regret that we can't yet confirm the time and date of the hearing(s).

This is typical of the BOE and Superintendent, change the game rules in the middle of the game. I just do not believe that the date was set for 26 June and "suddenly" changed on 25 June. I do believe that district is not available for a response.

It is high time that the voters of Maplewood and South Orange take the BOE and district to task. I would urge all to write a letter to the Superintendent asking him to explain what is going on. I would also urge all to write a letter to the BOE, enclose the letter to the Superintendent, and ask the BOE what they are doing about the lack of transparency on the part of the Superintendent and his seemingly repeated inability to communicate with the voters that pay his rather generous compensation package.

Letters should be addressed to: BOE, 525 Academy Street, Maplewood, New Jersey 07040 and Superintendent, 525 Academy Street, Maplewood, New Jersey 07040.
