Early-Morning Fire Totals Garage, Two Cars

The South Orange Fire Department put out a fire early Saturday morning.

An early-morning fire Saturday totalled a garage and two cars on Irving Avenue. At shortly after 3 a.m., the South Orange Fire Department responded to a call and found a two-story garage in flames, which extended to a car parked in the driveway and trees surrounding the garage. According to South Orange Fire Chief Jeff Markey, the large fire was "threatening the adjacent residence."

Orange and Maplewood Fire Departments joined the SOFD in fighting the blaze. Firefighters checked to make sure neighbors were out of the adjacent house, while others set up lights to illuminate the area.

By approximately 4 a.m., the fire was under control and an Origin and Cause investigation began.  The garage and two vehicles involved in the fire were a total loss. There were no injuries.
