For Columbia fans, red and black is the new black. With a playoff game right here at Underhill, many folks around town are looking for a touch of Cougar spirit.

S & S Beauty Supply on South Orange Avenue is well stocked with beauty products from wigs to hard-to-find English import Dettol cleanser (prices vary by size). The front of the store, though, is a treasure trove of accessories that shout school pride, and most cost no more than $1.99.

Store owner Steve Kim stocks shoelaces ($1.99) in black and red. The store has countless – truly countless – hair accessories in the same shades of school spirit. Most cost less than one dollar. Hats and bandannas (prices range, but most are under $3) make a Cougar roar, while tiny clips in red and black are perfect for the tiniest of Cougars. The glittery, sparkly barrettes (.99) are the icing on the cake. There are hats, bandannas, and even pashminas in our school colors.

The must-have spirit gear is nail polish in well more than 100 shades (prices vary from .99 to about $5), including black and red to color those Cougar claws.

This playoff game at our own home field has been a long time coming. It's an occasion to celebrate our community, our scholar-athletes, our scholar-musicians, the coaches, and the numerous parents supporters who keep the Cougars fed and get them to the field on time.
