Editor's Notebook: Week in Review
The CHS football team improved to 7-0, and job applications received by the school district tripled for the 2009-2010 school year.
On Monday, we had coverage of the Montrose Park Historic District Association's ghost tour and an ongoing effort by volunteers to replant the Reservation with native plant life.
On Tuesday, we had a feature on the Maplewood-based New Jersey Fencing Alliance's wheelchair fencing program and coverage of a YouthNet forum for teens in the CHS cafeteria. The school district reported that the number of AP test takers last year was significantly up, ladybugs swarmed at Columbia High School and elsewhere around town, and the CHS field hockey team picked up its first win of the season.
On Wednesday, we ran a fitness column on the family drama arising from raking and a story on the Seton Hall banners to be hung on gas lamps around South Orange. We also reported on the status of lighting at Underhill Field; the Board of Education has tweaked the regulations regarding facilities usage in anticipation of the project coming up for a vote again.
On Thursday, we reported on the surge in job applications received by the school district for this year and the county's plan to install deer reflector lights on JFK Parkway. Police looked for a potentially suicidal teen at Mountain Station but called off the search when they learned she had returned to the group home in Orange where she lives.
On Friday, a pep rally was held at Columbia High School in support of the school's fall sports teams, and the undefeated football team in particular. We reported on the Village's current plans for administering H1N1 vaccine and ran a story on Seth Boyden students' trip to a teacher's farm in Bedminster. The CHS soccer team played to a scoreless tie against Montclair.
On Saturday, the football team improved their record to 7-0. We also had a story on a bullying expert's talk at Clinton School.
