The body of an 88-year-old woman was discovered in a wooded area off of South Orange Avenue near Ridgewood Road in South Orange Thursday night, according to Katherine Carter of the Essex County Prosecutor's Office.

The woman, South Orange resident Audrey Wald, was pronounced dead at the scene, said Carter; the cause of death was hypothermia. 

Wald left her car near the entrance to the Village Green apartment complex, became disoriented and started walking, said Carter. Wald then suffered a "medical event," Carter said. There was no sign of foul play.
