Father's Day Last-Minute Shopping Guide

After lavishing months of labor shellacking that mug for mom and carefully planning her elaborate breakfast in bed, you've left dad's Father's Day present to the last minute again — haven't you?

Never fear — Maplewood, South Orange and Millburn businesses are here to help.

Bhakti Barn Yoga in Millburn is offering Dad free Yoga on Sunday. Help Dad stretch, tone, relax and get in touch with his inner calm.

One quick and popular idea to win the favor of your father is a bottle of wine or perhaps some single malt Scotch. Local purveyors include the Village Wine Shop, Maplewood Liquors, Springfield Liquors, Kasper's Wines & Liquors and even Maple Chek Food & Liquors in Maplewood; The Wine Shop and Dave's Liquors in Millburn; and University Wines & Spirits and Town Hall Delicatessen in South Orange.  A & D Deli & Liquors on Valley Street in South Orange has the added advantage of a cigar selection.

Buncher's Hardware in Millburn is hallowed ground for handy dads (I know that my husband's pupils start dilating when he enters the place). While most mom-and-pop hardware stores have gone the way of the dinosaurs, Buncher's endures. Stop in and get some tools and supplies for pop.

Millstone Lawn & Garden on Pierson Road in Maplewood has the lawn and garden supplies that your lawnmower man craves. And they open early: hours are 8 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Friday and 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday (sorry — closed on Sunday!).

Kitchen a la Mode at 19 South Orange Avenue is a grill master's dream right now. Owner Ben Salmon has stocked the place to the rafters with grilling accoutrements. Meanwhile, Eden Gourmet - The Marketplace at Eden has great deals on everything you need for a perfect barbecue at home or abroad — including gift baskets and host gifts.

There aren't many men's clothing stores in the towns anymore, but handsome Horace up at Top Hat & Tails on Springfield Avenue can hook dad up with some fancy duds — or at least a tasteful tie.

Gift certificates are a great idea. From wine to books to meals and cups of coffee, the well-placed gift card will get you far with your favorite father. Certificates for food or coffee at places like Kari's Cafe, Crane's Delicatessen, Lorena's and Verjus abound. Something that always pleases the dad in this house? A bag of coffee beans from Dunkin' Donuts.

And finally, mom isn't the only one who likes to be wined and dined.
