'Frankenfish' Salmon Moves Closer to FDA Approval—Would You Eat It?
The federal agency says the fish are safe for people and the environment, but critics remain skeptical.
Genetically modified salmon could soon be making its way to your dinner plate, if the Food and Drug Administration grants final approval to a proposal from a Massachusetts bio tech firm.
The fish, dubbed "Frankenfish" by its critics, is Atlantic salmon that has been modified with a growth hormone from Pacific chinook salmon and a gene from an eel-like fish known as ocean pout. The modifications result in a fish that matures twice as fast as regular Atlantic salmon.
Would you be comfortable eating genetically modified salmon? Tell us in the comments section.
The FDA has already determined the fish, created by AquaBounty Technologies, poses no health or environmental risk, according to various media reports. The proposal is now under a 60-day period of public review—the final hurdle to FDA approval.
The genetically modified fish tastes like regular salmon, meaning consumers probably will not be able to tell the difference—and ABC News reports the FDA is unlikely to require special labeling for the fish.

This engineered food source is the wave of the future feeding the multitudes, but it may not be a healthy substitute for what is found in nature. These people may be tinkering with a ticking time bomb, that may blow up in our faces. As for me I will try to stick with something Mother nature has provided us with.

This has no place on on tables or in our environment. When will the USDA put our health before the greed of corporations?

Beware of fooling around with Mother Nature !
Am I kidding myself ? That's the trend !
If my grandpa was around again ,he'd shake his head discovering "Bionic Man" in the making ! Flying cars are being purchased already..
Well ,our tomorrows should be interesting!
Question? Is that going to make our world a better place ?
Let's learn to meditate and reflect on the possible future for all of us.

Why are we allowing this companies to tamper with our health? GMO corn, growth hormones in chicken, beef, etc and who knows what on the veggies. Obesity is a major program in the US, yet they put growth hormones in the meat and now fish we eat. If if makes the animals grow larger faster, what the hell is it doing to us. GET REAL AND STOP THIS MADNESS.

How can you best reach the FDA regarding their pending approval of GE salmon? They are accepting comments on this issue until Feb. 25th. So far, only 568 comments have been received. We need to provide them with an avalanche of comments.

The intent of the huge biotech companies who are producing genetically engineered foods is NOT to feed the starving, but to control our food supply and to make more profit. World hunger is a problem of poor distribution, not limited supply. The FDA cannot guarantee that all of these fish are sterile, nor can they guarantee that none will escape. Escaped farmed salmon cause huge problems in the environment today and if one or more of these hungry girls gets out, it will decimate native populations of who knows how many species. Furthermore, because the United States refuses to label foods containing GMOs we will not be able to avoid this product in the grocery store, so if it is approved I will not buy salmon of any kind again.

and then, when this works, lets genetically engineer our children to mature at a much faster rate. oh, wait, thanks to monsanto and growth hormones, we already are...

According to a recent news report, if the FDA grants final approval to these "Frankenfish," they can best be avoided by choosing organic or wild salmon. Any salmon labeled “farm-raised” would be suspect.

Where are the long term health studies?Testing on 6 fish for allergens does not cut it!First the plants modified with pesticides and herbicide resistance, now modification of animals with growth hormones!Haven't we learned anything with rbgh in our milk supply.46 days left to tell the FDA, NO! to GE salmon!Let your voice be heard!

These foods have to be studied much better and by independent sources before being released on the general population with no labeling.

No Way I would knowingly eat this crap.... or any GMO foods... if you can call them that... they are making us sick and unhealthy...... they need to be banned or at least labeled.... they are messing with things that will have severe consequences for us all ... Man has no business trying to change or manipulate what God has placed on this earth for all us to eat and enjoy.... everything these companies touch they ruin, and end results is never good..... they need to be stopped... and have been banned in many other countries... the only reason they haven't been stopped here is because our law makers ( congress and such) are sitting on the boards of these companies and/or have stocks in them... a big conflict of interest if you ask me, and not only that members of the FDA also in on this crap.... need big changes in this country to stop this nonsense....

This is a really large national problem. Wrong on so many levels.
How do we get through to the apathetic mass majority? Is this Democracy? What a joke -with no punchline.
