Free Movie Tickets on Tuesdays

S.O. cinema is offering free movies to Cablevision's Optimum subscribers.

Cablevision Triple Play customers enjoy a weekly bonus, two free tickets to any movie shown at a Clearview Cinema, including the cinema at SOPAC. Clearview, which is a Cablevision subsidiary, won’t release information about how many such tickets have changed hands, but anecdotal reports and occasional sold-out shows suggest that Tuesday has become a popular night for movie-going.

According to Optimum, Rewards members receive two tickets to a single movie each Tuesday. The offer is good all day long, from midnight to 11:59 p.m. Tickets must be obtained at the box office–online ticketing isn’t available for this offer–by showing both the Optimum card and a photo identification. The program also allows members to purchase tickets at a discount; the members’ price for an adult ticket is $7.

The National Association of Theatre Owners, an industry trade group, ranks Tuesdays last in popularity for moviegoers all over the nation. The Optimum program is likely to change that, at least locally, with Clearview’s 48 cinemas filling on Tuesdays. The program, which has been in place since 2006, has grown some 56 percent, according to The Star-Ledger.

“My mom and I don’t miss a Tuesday,” said high school sophomore Emily G of South Orange. “We eat something, see a movie, maybe get ice cream. Ask me about a movie; I swear that I’ve seen them all this summer, good and bad.”

The trend is growing. No matter what’s on the screen, movie Tuesdays are a hit.
