The performing arts staff of Studio 691 at the Wyckoff Family YMCA in Wyckoff, N.J. put on a one-night performance of Gioachino Rossini's "The Barber of Seville" on Nov. 18.
Why is this of interest to folks in Maplewood and South Orange?
Because the principal of Seth Boyden School — which serves students from both towns — took on two roles in the opera. Mark Quiles played Ambrosius — Dr. Bartolo's Lazy Servant — as well as a lawyer (note the wig) at the end of the opera.
Quiles regularly finds time to appear in productions including a role in Puccini's comedic opera Gianni Schicchi at the Wyckoff Family YMCA last October and a non-operatic turn as Miss Hannigan's no-good brother Rooster in a production of Annie last December.
