interACT Brings Broadway and Big Screen to Burgdorff
Community theatre company will present an evening of hits from stage and screen at annual benefit performance.
Some of the most memorable show tunes from Broadway that found their way to big-screen movies will be performed by a young Essex County theatre company at the Burgdorff Center for the Performing Arts in Maplewood.
interACT Sings! Big Screen to Broadway is a two-night celebration June 15-June 16 to raise money for the troupe’s upcoming season. The benefit will include a raffle and auction, as well as a reception for supporters of community theatre on each of the two evenings.
Past productions have included She Loves Me, The Bad Seed and Godspell. In it next season, interACT Theatre Productions will expand to present three main stage productions as well as a children’s theatre show and its annual benefit event. The Crucible, on stage this fall, will be interACT’s first main stage production for the 2012-2013 season. Perennial favorite, Charlotte’s Web will be the children’s production.
“Our mission is to be a more inclusive and accessible form of community theatre,” said Elena Svitavsky president, interACT Theatre Productions. “We want to engage as broad an array of community members as possible, whether on stage, backstage, off stage or in the audience – the magic of theatre should be available to everyone!”
Reflecting the company’s mission of encouraging and incorporating multigenerational casts, Nicholas J. Clarey, the company’s artistic director, has assembled 13 lucky (and talented) performers from age 13 to 68 for the benefit musical revue.
The show will feature: Aaron Braden, Anne Eckhardt, Alicia Fink, Leslie Frost, Frank Guerrasio, Sally Jayne, Holly Lehren, Emma Leone, Brent Quam, Shona Roebuck, Nicole Sollazzo, Elena Stremlin, and Marco Vergara. Holland Jancaitis is the musical director.
Maplewood Deli and Grille, The Able Baker, and An Affair to Remember are generously donating hors d’oeuvres, desserts and event planning for the benefit.
There will also be a raffle and a silent auction of goods and services donated by local merchants.
Tickets include food and drinks and are $25 for one evening or $40 for both. Tickets will be available for purchase at the door, or online @ www.interactproductions.org
The reception both evenings begins at 7 p.m. with performances at 8 p.m. The Burgdorff Center for the Performing Arts in Maplewood is located at 10 Durand Road, Maplewood. More information is available at the interACT website.
