Lights, Sirens, Shrek in South Orange

A first-hand look at the South Orange's first annual National Night Out

Floods Hill was packed on Tuesday evening with revelers of all ages enjoying the music, food, and activities that made National Night Out (NNO) a success.

Sheena Collum of the Citizens Public Safety Committee noted that many communities hold NNO in collaboration with police department. "Here in South Orange," she said, "we included all aspects of public safety." The Citizens Public Safety Committee thanked the South Orange Police Department, the South Orange PBA Local #12, the South Orange Fire Department, the South Orange Rescue Squad, and the South Orange Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) for their participation in the event. Village trustees Janine Bauer, Deborah Davis Ford, and Michael Goldberg were recognized by Village President Douglas Newman, along with Village Administrator John Gross.

Crowd estimates ranged as high as 600, as participants mingled, threw balls at a dunk tank, and played games with South Mountain School's Mr. K. Maria Priadka dancers and Aisle Five entertained the crowd. And when the sun went down, Shrek loomed on the big, inflatable screen. It was a South Orange night out to remember.
