Man Steals Almost $80,000 in Rolexes, Police Say
Two watches were stolen from The Mall at Short Hills last week when the security guard went on lunch break.
Police are searching for a man who stole almost $80,000 in Rolex watches from Ross Simons in The Mall at Short Hills on Nov. 28.
The theft, which occurred at about 6:24 p.m., happened as the store's security guard stepped away for his lunch break.
According to police, the man entered the store at 6:12 p.m. and asked a sales associate to see two watches. The man put one of the watches on and walked over to a mirror.
When the man returned to the sales associate, police said, he grabbed the second watch and ran out of the store.
The sales associate told police one watch was a rose gold Rolex, valued at $40,550. The other watch was a $37,550 white gold Rolex.
Police described the shoplifter as a thin black man, approximately 5 feet, 8-inches tall with a goatee, wearing a black trench coat and a brown hat.
Security video shows the man stealing the watches. However, police were unable to find him after searching the mall.
The investigation is continuing.
