Paul Ryan Comes to Short Hills

The nominee of the Republican party for vice president visits a Short Hills resident's house.

Paul Ryan, the Republican party vice presidential nominee, is attending a reception at a Millburn-Short Hills residence Saturday afternoon.

The Wisconsin Congressman plans to visits Judy and Bill Greenblatt's home on Stewart Road in Short Hills at 4:30 p.m. Vistors are asked to arrive at 4 p.m. for a security check.

The Greenblatts run a non-profit organization, Greenblatt Family Charitable Tr, which provides private grants, according to fundraise.com.

The invitation suggests contributions of $1,000 to attend and $5,000 for a photo opportunity.

Ryan's not the only GOP on the ticket to come to town. In April, The Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney visited Short Hills for a private fundraiser that hedge fund billionaire David Tepper and Clifford Sobe hosted, NJ.com reported.

Recently, Ryan stopped to campaign at Baldwin Wallace University in Berea, Ohio this past Wednesday. He was expected to visit the Cleveland Browns' nearby practice facility in Berea after the rally, according to the Mayfield-Hill Crest Patch.

Before that, on Tuesday, the VP candidate visited Fredericksburg and Lynchburg in Virginia, the Fredericksburg Patch reported.

Have you kept up with Millburn news? Here's the top read stories around town:

For $ 1000 you can see Paul Ryan, Barbra Streisand or the Rolling Stones. Life's choices can be so difficult

Ryan should make a stop at Millburn High. Some of the AP Calculus students can help him out with his fuzzy math issues. Then he can wash the clean pots in the school cafeteria.

Mitt, Paul, and Short Hills = perfect together. Doubt you'll be seeing them in Orange, Bloomfield, Irvington, Nutley, Newark, etc. No doubt Romney/Ryan will carry SH in a landslide. It's their type of town. Unfortunately many middle class people are being snowed and think these two Republicans have their best interests at heart. I don't blame SH for voting for them. The rich will get much richer with the Rep. ticket and if I made a bit more money, I might vote for them myself. Their "plan?" will leave people like me (and most Americans) out of the loop and digging deeper in our pockets more than ever before. Yes, Romney/Ryan is the best choice for most of the SH population. Best for the country? Please stop, that's very insulting.

Put down the kool aid. All politicians have fundraisers in rich areas. Obama is in the swankiest parts of Los Angeles every other minute.

Actually, if you look at 2008, SH, which is part of Millburn township, went for Obama. Not all of us SHillians vote with our pocketbooks and a lot of us recognize the condescending, arrogant, empty suits that are the Romney/Ryan ticket (talking out of both sides of their mouths and insulting our intelligence by not providing us with the details of their so-called 5 point plan; even my 11-year old daughter recognizes that all they give us is empty rhetoric). There are some of us who understand that this country only becomes greater when all of our people have a fair shot at climbing up that ladder ... not just some of us!

Hi 20yearmiller,

It is so nice to hear that the Republican Party, the party of Lincoln, the party that abolished slavery in the United States, is alive and well in Short Hills and supported by dedicated and involved citizens who believe in freedom.

Saw a guy wearing a Romney Ryan campaign cap and Reagan jumper at Alstede farms in Chester NJ yesterday. He was a family man and seemed like a loving father. From the hopeless campaign talk by Romney Ryan on TV, I wonder how those ideas would appeal to this family guy who otherwise seems no different than me. And he didn't look like a rich guy.

Hope that whatever donation the foundation gives him comes with before-tax dollars. Otherwise, this donation to Ryan will, in essence, be made in partnership with the tax money we all pay to make up for spurious not-for-profit donations. There is not for profit and there is political. They can be both, but you can't use deduction-eligible dollars from a foundation to donate to a political campaign. Or can you?
