Nina Nicholson of Maplewood sent this photo shortly before 11 a.m. Friday morning with this quote: "The line of people waiting for a shipment of generators at the Home Depot on Springfield Ave. in Union stretches almost the entire length of the store. I'm told the first person in line has been here since 6 a.m."
Shelves stocked with water at Maplewood King's at 2:30 p.m. Friday, August 26. The clerk said he had just refilled the shelves 20 minutes before.

The long line in the photo is only for those waiting for generators -- as of 11 a.m., the other Home Depot checkout lines were normal.

As of around 1 p.m. Kings was almost cleaned out of water. Small bottles and some packs of bottles were moving fast. Also out of flashlights. I bought one of the last bags of ice, too.

Trader Joe's was out of water and many other beverages, as well as fruit. Target had some water, but they were selling it straight out the big boxes the bottles were shipped in. Pathmark was out of water and milk earlier today.

I was at Home Depot at around 12:30 and saw what Nina saw. No problem checking out. I overheard people saying that Target was out of C and D batteries. Some advice: Costco is the place to go for batteries and flashlights, and modern flashlights use AA and AAA batteries. which you can buy in packs of 40. Great flashlight deals if they have any left.

At around 2:30 Maplewood Kings still had plenty of water — they keep restocking — but it was moving fast. There was also lots of milk, bread, eggs. Busy but not insane.
