PolitickerNJ.com: Christie Signs Jasey School Choice into Law

SO's Mila Jasey sponsored a bill, now law, that creates allows children to attend school in other districts

On Friday night, Governor Chris Christie signed a school choice bill into law. Sponsored by Assembly Democrats Mila Jasey, Joan Voss and Paul Moriarty, the law allows students to attend any other public school in the state whose enrollment is below capacity. The student's home district will provide and pay for transportation to the new school, up to 20 miles away.

In a statement, Jasey said, "Public school choice is an important step to ensuring each child has the ability to attend a school that is best-suited to their individual needs and talents. More importantly, public school choice programs can improve educational outcomes for students without seeing taxpayer money funneled out of New Jersey's strong public school system." Jasey is a former member of the South Orange-Maplewood Board of Education.
