As we all bask in the afterglow of what might have been the greatest Maplewoodstock yet, it’s time to catch up on some South Orange news.
There are some exciting developments in the local restaurant scene, with a brand new place opening up, a popular eatery welcoming a new chef, and an old favorite changing hands.
As you might have read on Patch recently, the upscale Haitian Creole restaurant Le Kiosque opened its doors on Valley Street. Owned by a husband and wife team, the spot is an exciting addition to South Orange’s lively ethnic dining scene.
Above Restaurant has a new chef, Mark Sokolofsky, who has already been winning accolades from diners. Trained at the Culinary Institute of America, Mark has cooked in respected professional kitchens all over New Jersey.
“We have been updating the menu with new dishes and specials, including small plates like pulled pork sliders to main entries like the 40 oz bone-in Cowboy Steak for two,” said marketing director Elyse Corwin. “We have gotten a lot of great feedback from our patrons.”
Plus, both outdoor patios are open, and ladies night continues every Thursday with drink specials.

In other news...Papillon 25 will feature a live taping Tuesday night of “The Tatum Talks,” a talk show featured on BKS1 Radio www.bks1radio.com hosted by Tanya Tatum. A panel of experts will answer questions live on the air about hot-button topics that affect you, your family and your community. The free event is from 6-9 p.m.; call 742-4776 for more information.
Finally, for those who still haven’t gotten their fill of great live music outdoors, head to Flood’s Hill on Wednesday to hear Ray Rodriguez y Swing Sabroso. This second installment in the free Concerts on the Hill series starts at 7:30 p.m.; in case of rain it will be held at SOPAC.
