Sandy Forces Closure of Essex County Offices
Officials announce county will shut buildings and facilities as storm approaches.
Essex County Codey Arena is being set up as a shelter for county residents during Hurricane Sandy.

Essex County officials announced Sunday majority of county offices will be closed because of the Hurricane Sandy.
The county announced on its website all county offices, buildings and facilities will be closed be closed tomorrow with the exception of the following departments:
- The Essex County Sheriff’s Office in Newark
- The Essex County Hospital Center in Cedar Grove
- The Essex County Correctional Facility in Newark
- The Essex County Juvenile Detention Center
In addition, the Essex County Turtle Back Zoo and any events planned for the Codey Arena have been cancelled.
The Codey Arena will be open tonight beginning at 7 p.m. as a county storm shelter.
