School District Releases 2010-11 Vandalism and Violence Report

The report, mandated by NCLB, shows more incidents for 2010-11 over 2009-10, but incidents are drastically down from previous school years.

The South Orange-Maplewood School District released its Annual Report of District School Violence and Vandalism for the 2010-2011 at Monday night's Board of Education meeting.

The reported is required by the federal No Child Left Behind law.

The report showed that the overall number of incidents was up over the previous year, with 93 events reports in 2010-11 and 76 reported in 2009-10. However, the number was down from the years from 2003-04 through 2007-08 when total incidents consistently numbered more than 100 and reached as high as 171 in 2005-06.

The annual report showed that all of the reported incidents occurred at either Columbia High School (52), Maplewood Middle School (24) or South Orange Middle School (17). No reported incidents occurred in the elementary schools.
