Six Candidates File for BOT Election
When the deadline came at 4 p.m., six candidates had filed.
Out of 18 potential candidates who obtained candidate packets from the Village Clerk's office, just six had filed at today's 4 p.m. deadline. Three seats are at stake in the election.
Heading the "Pure Progress" ticket is sitting Trustee Michael Goldberg, whose running mates are Nancy Gould and Janine Bauer.
Bauer, an attorney, was an interim Trustee in early 2007 and has been a member of the Planning Board and Citizens Budget Advisory Commitee. She ran for a full term as a Trustee on former Village President Bill Calabrese's ticket in the regular 2007 election.
Gould, a realtor, is currently a member of the Planning Board.
Headed the other ticket is former Trustee Stephen Steglitz, who's running with Mary Washington Nieves—a member of the board of the Columbia High School HSA, serving as one of the sophomore grade level representatives—and Dale Favors.
The other two incumbents whose seats are up for grabs—Stacey Jennings and Terriann Moore-Abrams—will not be seeking re-election.
Jennings said the decision was largely based on her desire to spend more time with her family and to focus her energy on her position as municipal chairwoman of the Essex County Democratic Committee.
"I don't want to burn out up there," she said.
The election will be held on May 12, and the seats are for four-year terms.
