South Orange Residents Remain in the Dark

With a new storm looming, resident worry and wonder

While repair crews from many states line the streets, and most schoolchildren are back in class -- even if it's for a shorter day than usual -- many South Orange residents remain without power.

Ten days after Sandy struck the area, PSE&G reports some 2500 residences without power. Neighborhoods include parts of Tuxedo Park, Newstead, and the streets between Wyoming and Ridgewood. However, some "pockets" have power restored, even in those areas.

On Tuesday, PSE&G reported a focus on:
W. 3rd St, N. Wyoming Ave, Glenside Rd, Ravine Dr, Wyoming Ave, Crest Circle, Crestwood Rd, Longview rd, Great Hills Dr, Inwood La, Brentwood Dr, Mead St, Hillside Terr, Nassau St, Franklin Terr, McLaughlin Pl, Meadowbrook Lane.

The work schedule released on Tuesday afternoon, shows power remaining out through the weekend.

Marcia, has PSE&G explained why their workplan keeps showing and increase in SO homes without power from earlier this week? From 1600+ to 2500+ and now the workplan shows 3000+

We live on Prospect north, on the east side of Prospect and we are also without power. I haven't once seen a utility crew in our neighborhood since the storm, while multiple trucks are seen at work in areas that already have power.

Why is no-one in municipal government keeping tabs on the PSE&G work schedule, and keeping them honest about it. It changes every day - pushing restoration dates and customer numbers further out each time. This isn't about criticizing the crews or the reality of bad weather, but it IS about how badly a monopoly business responds to its clients, and how forcefully those clients (e.g. municipalities like South Orange) respond to poor service to get what they need for their constituents.
Who will organize a social media blitz to call for PSE&G to devote more resources to South Orange? This is the only way to get priority.
