South Orange Teen Signs Letter of Intent to Attend West Point
South Orange resident and Newark Academy senior Nicholas Williams will play soccer for the United States Military Academy at West Point.
South Orange resident and Newark Academy senior Nicholas Williams had cause to celebrate on 2013 National Signing Day on Wednesday, Feb. 6.
Joined by family and friends, the South Orange resident signed his National Letter of Intent to play soccer for the United States Military Academy at West Point.
Williams served as captain of the varsity men’s soccer team during his senior year at Newark Academy. Among his other athletic achievements:
- 1st Team, all Essex County
- 1st Team all Prep B
- 1st Team all SEC Liberty Division
- 2nd Team all non-public States
This past fall, the best high school-age soccer players in the United States were asked to play for select Academy teams instead of playing for their high school teams.
For Williams, finishing his Newark Academy athletic career was so important to him that he applied for a waiver to allow him to play for the Livingston-based school.
He explained he wanted to finish what he started when he came to Newark Academy in sixth grade. Williams attended both Marshall and Jefferson Schools.
Williams is looking forward to graduation and to playing soccer for the West Point Black Knights.
