New Jersey municipalities including Fairfield, Rahway and Ridgefield Park have decided to cancel Fourth of July fireworks displays this year due to budgetary pressures.

Union County towns including Summit had mulled canceling their fireworks, but last-minute fundraising allowed them to go forward with their programs.

Editor's note: South Orange last had Fourth of July fireworks in 2007. Savings to the Village amount to about $30,000, according to Village Administrator John Gross.

Maplewood still has fireworks; it's $10 for a tag to be admitted to Memorial Park, where festivities are held throughout the day.
