"Sweeney Eyes U.S. Senate in Top State News"....
I think he's peeing into the wind. Besides his difficulty in raising enough money to oppose Lautenberg, his base of support is concentrated in pockets of the southern area of the state; he's lost the support of county and state civil service employees since he turned his back on them and sided with Christie on the pension and health benefits legislation; and, he has a non-impressive resume.

So Steve Sweeney represents southern New Jersey Democrats and Cory Booker represents northern New Jersey Democrats - both will probably be running for the same US Senate seat. The question is "Who has greater financial and power broker support throughout the state?".

Both of them have their political "Godfathers". It will be interesting to see how it play out...Sweeney is a protege of Norcross and Whelan in South Jersey, Booker is a protege of Adubato and DiVincenzo in North Jersey. Both are democrat power brokers who have allied with Christie and used their influence to push the pension and health benefits legislation through.
I'd like to see Codey run, but he'll have a hard time raising money and very little support from the democrat power brokers. He's the most honorable of the three.
