The coming weekend promises all kinds of fun — you can find out if you are smarter than a 5th grader, or hunt for Easter eggs, meet a teen author or catch a musical. There are also a few fundraisers in the area. Don’t forget to check the Patch calendar for a complete listing of events!

Redwood School Presents 'Are You Smarter than a 5th Grader?'

For a fun, family-oriented night out, come play “Are You Smarter than a 5th Grader?” at Redwood Elementary School this Friday.  VIP Contestants Governor Richard Codey, Mayor Robert Parisi, Superintendant Dr. Cavanna, Principal Kivlon, American Idol Jared Cotter, Councilwoman McCartney, NFL Jets Trainer Roberto Luciano and others challenge our very own 5th grade students. Refreshments and raffles add to the excitement.  All proceeds benefit the 5th Grade Legacy Project. $5 per person or $15 per family; Friday at 6:30 p.m.; West Orange

28th Annual Easter Egg Hunt

Bring your own basket for Maplewood’s Annual Easter Egg Hunt at Memorial Park. Children 8 and under are invited to search for colorful eggs filled with candy and prizes. Take your best guess how many jelly beans are in the jar!  Free; Saturday at 1 p.m.; Maplewood

Millburn Middle School Presents '13 The Musical'

Seventy-six Millburn middle schoolers will present “13 the Musical” — a show following the story of 13-year-old Evan, who is moving from NYC to Indiana and experiences a conflict with the celebration of his Bar Mitzvah. $14; Friday and Saturday at 7 p.m., and Sunday at 1 p.m.; Millburn

Teen Fantasy Author A.J. Cunder visits Barnes & Noble

Teen fantasy author A.J. Cunder will appear at Barnes & Noble to promote his novel "The Silver Talon." Cunder, who began writing the book at age 16, is currently an honor student at Seton Hall University. Since the age of one-and-a-half, A.J. has lived with Type 1 diabetes. Proceeds from book sales will be used to help the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation find a cure for this life-long disease. Free; Saturday at 2 p.m.; Livingston

United to Educate: Spin into Spring

FLYWHEEL Sports will host a double fundraiser when the United Way of Millburn-Short Hills and Student/Partner Alliance partner for an afternoon of spinning (indoor cycling). The United Way is supporting its mission of much needed health and human care programs and projects that improve the quality of lives in our community. Student/Partner Alliance supports inner-city high school students in NJ with private school tuition assistance and mentoring to increase their chances for college admission and scholarships, and to ultimately lead successful and productive lives. $100; Sunday 2 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.; Millburn

Les Nubians

Les Nubians are 2 Grammy-nominated, French/Cameroonian sisters who will perform a jazzy mix in their inventive and glamorous “Afropean” style. Final Four Beefsteak

NCAA Basketball and Filet Mignon! WO Elks and WOBC know how to throw a fundraiser. In support of the West Orange Boys Basketball and Lacrosse Programs, this event will feature an all-you-can-eat Filet Mignon Dinner while the NCAA Men's Basketball Semi-finals Double Header plays on the big screen at the West Orange Elks Lodge $40; Saturday at 5:30 p.m.; West Orange

Trail Work Day on Mayapple Trail 

Mayapple Loop Trail is a new multi-use, sustainable mile circuit around Mayapple Hill in South Mountain Reservation. Volunteers are needed to help in a day of trail building. The work is strenuous, so ages 15 and older only, please. Work gloves, tools and water are supplied. Please wear sturdy footgear. Meet at Mayapple Hill Parking Lot on Cedar Lane.
