Turkey and Food Drive To Be Held This Saturday
Temple Sharey Tefilo-Israel will be the site for the Community FoodBank of New Jersey food drive.
With another holiday season upon us, it is time to think of ways to help those in need. If you want to donate food to the needy, this Saturday, November 19, marks an ideal time to do so.
The Community FoodBank of New Jersey will hold its annual Thanksgiving Turkey and Food Drive this Saturday. South Orange Residents can participate by dropping off frozen (never thawed) turkey and non-perishable groceries between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m at the front circular driveway of Temple Sharey Tefilo-Israel.
The turkeys and other donations will help the FoodBank to provide a traditional Thanksgiving dinner and other holiday meals to those in need, as well as and to still be there for those in need after the holidays.
“Our partner agencies have reported a rise in need of 40 percent in the past year,” said Kathleen DiChiara, president and CEO of the Community FoodBank of New Jersey, in a press release. “When you combine that recent rise in our poverty statistics, the situation is dire. We rely on these turkey drives to help combat the problem and provide a Thanksgiving meal for those in need.”
A total of 40 sites are taking part in the turkey drive across Northern and Central Jersey.
The FoodBank will also accept financial donations, which will be used to purchase turkeys at wholesale prices and distribute food and groceries throughout the winter months. Donations can be made online to help provide a holiday meal for a family in need.
