West Montrose Ave. Reopens after Morning Fuel Spill
On the South Orange, Orange border, the street is now open to the public
West Montrose Avenue reopened at midday on Tuesday after a fuel spill closed the street from Page Terrace to roughly Vose Avenue. Authorities confirmed that diesel fuel spilled in the area on the Orange - South Orange border, but they wouldn't yet say how the spill happened.
Some residents became aware of the spill because of the strong smell. "I wondered what was going on," said Kathy James, who lives on Vose Avenue. "I could smell something, but I wasn't sure if it was a car or something happened."
Both the South Orange and Orange Fire Departments were on the scene, along with the South Orange Department of Public Works. West Montrose Avenue was treated with an absorbent material. Into the afternoon, trucks and cars could be seen driving very slowly on the hilly street.
