It’s a blast and a social scene! The daytime sales see kids galore and families shopping. The evenings are when people come out from the city to see what’s good to get.
From my experience, here are a few strategies for enjoying the sale and leaving with what you need.
List what you want to buy and/or set a budget.
Maps are given out at the door. I recommend taking a map, and taking your list and circling the areas you wish to visit first.
Bring cash (no credit cards at the sale) in small denominations.
Bring a measuring tape for clothes, pictures and furniture.
Travel light. Don’t stop on the way home from the library or Kings, with bags over your arm. Bring as little as possible.
Strollers aren’t permitted in the sale. (Babies are most welcome, but the hallways are too narrow for strollers.)
A bag for your purchases is a good idea; a fabric grocery bag is ideal. You might plan to return to your car with a first set of purchases before moving on.
Pace yourself and plan to return. Something to know about the Turnover is that goods are donated throughout July. New stuff arrives daily, so if you don’t find what you want on the first visit, return.
Dressing rooms are communal; be prepared.
Lines form early on sale days, and parking nearby can be challenging. Wear comfortable shoes, eat a good meal first, and allow time to browse.
Finally, the proceeds go to charity and the sales force is volunteer, so we appreciate your patience with us.
