In memoriam--Freda Kohn Garnett

Freda Kohn Garnett of Summit died on Saturday, January 19, 2013.  She was the beloved wife of the late Dr Leo Kohn and Dr. Robert Garnett.  Devoted mother of Charles (and Susan) Kohn of Needham, MA.,  Alice (and Richard) Barron of Chatham, N.J., and Penny Kohn of Brookline, MA.  Loving grandmother of Debbie, Karen, Wendy, Alex, Julia and Stacie and adored great-grandmother of Jonas and Celine. Born in Waterbury, Connecticut, she grew up in Garfield, N.J. before moving to South Orange, N.J. where she lived for over 40 years raising her family.  She later lived in Verona, West Orange and Summit.  She was a graduate of Indiana University in 1940 with a degree in journalism.  She began her career as the head of advertising for the Canadian Fur Company of New York City.  She went on to serve in a similar capacity at Capitol Lighting.  Later in her life she worked as a case worker for the Essex County Board of Social Services from where she retired in June of 1980.  In addition to her professional career, she performed as a concert violinist with several community orchestras in Essex County, as well as other chamber ensembles.  She was a member of Congregation Beth-El in South Orange, N.J.
