It Was a Fun-Filled South Orange Weekend
Downtown After Sundown and GFest entertained folks from far and wide.
Lisa Hackett is the executive director of the South Orange Village Center Alliance (SOVCA). It may have been partly cloudy with a few drizzles at GFest and Downtown After Sundown….but there was lots of color from all the cars. Great music with five bands performing this weekend (Hellatones, The Baby Please, The Frost Kings, Mother Funkers, On the Hoof) which helped lift the mood of the day. These bands were fearless with electrical instruments and amplifiers in the rain. You don’t have to go into Manhattan to see extraordinary talent playing curbside. At Long Last, Village to Break Ground at Beifus Site
Luxury apartment complex will rise on long vacant spot in center of South Orange Village.
After more than a decade of controversy and false starts that left a gaping hole in the center of South Orange Village, officials will finally break ground on the site of the former Beifus car dealership next to the South Orange New Jersey Transit train station. The groundbreaking will take place on Wednesday, May 22 at 9 a.m. "The Gateway" will have 57 residential units and 9,100 square feet of retail space on the first floor, said Lisa Hackett, executive director of the South Orange Village Center Alliance (SOVCA). The one- and two-bedroom apartments will feature smart-living elements such as a virtual concierge.
