Since she was a child, Ashley Lively, 25, has had an interest in nursing, since her mother was a pediatric nurse. But her experience over the last nine months volunteering for the South Orange Rescue Squad has deepened her commitment to pursuing a career in emergency medicine. "The adrenaline rush and knowing that you're doing everything you can to save someone's life—it's priceless," said Lively, who graduated from the nursing program at Rutgers-Newark last year and passed the licensing exam for nurses (NCLEX) this April. South Orange and Maplewood high school students took the stage at the Burgdorff Cultural Center this past Saturday, May 29, to perform in the second Annual "Musicfest." The acts encompassed a wide variety of genres, including alternative rock, funk, jazz, Broadway and a cappella singing. The Musicfest was the brainchild of Tricia Tunstall, a long-time music educator and parent in the district and—until May 1—the director of the Maplewood Cultural Affairs program.
