The Adult School's morning ESL classes will be at the Hilton Branch Library, 1688 Springfield Ave., Maplewood. Classes run for 12 weeks on Tuesdays and Thursdays, 9-11:30am. Registration will be at 9am on Feb. 10 at the Hilton Branch.
Evening ESL classes will be at Columbia High School, 17 Parker Ave., Maplewood. Classes run for 12 weeks on Tuesdays and Thursdays, 7-9:30pm. Registration will begin at 6:30pm on Feb. 10 at CHS.
The classes include communication, life and job readiness skills, and preparation for the citizenship exam. Some classes include an introduction to computers.
Pre-GED and GED classes will be offered evenings at Columbia High School on Tuesdays and Thursdays, 7-9:30pm, for 12 weeks. Registration is 7pm on Feb. 10 at CHS. Classes include reading, writing and math skills to prepare for the high school equivalency exam.
The registration process for the ESL and GED classes will take two hours. Applicants must bring:
- $15 registration fee.
- Social security card and/or tax identification number document.
- Identification document (driver's license, passport or permanent resident card).
Classes are funded through a federal grant directed by the state Department of Labor, which stipulates that the money to used for training by New Jersey residents.
