The New York Theatre Ballet company, founded by artistic director Diana Byer in 1978, has a long tradition of talent and excellence, presenting classical ballet to a wider audience outside of New York. At SOPAC, they return to present two performances of the holiday classic The Nutcracker, choreographed by Keith Michael and set to the famed original score by Tchaikovsky.
This version of The Nutcracker is the first of the New York Theatre Ballet's one-hour performances, which began in the 1980s with the goal of bringing classical ballet to the family audience. This presentation is the only hour-long professional production of The Nutcracker in the New York metropolitan area, making it a must-see for fans of the work and classical ballet. The dancers bring warmth and sincerity to the performance of a holiday classic that is suitable for the entire family.

More About South Orange Performing Arts Center
The South Orange Performing Arts Center (SOPAC) is a world-class performing arts space in the middle of South Orange, featuring music, theater, dance and comedy. In addition to entertainment events, the Center hosts a variety of performing arts education programs including, Performances for Schools, ArtWorks, New Jersey Youth Theatre, TADA! Youth Theater and Lydia Johnson Dance. The facility's loft and theater are available to rent for private functions. There is also a Clearview Cinemas on the ground floor. SOPAC opened in November 2006 and is located next to the South Orange train station and has its own lot, which is used for commuter permit parking during the day.
