More About Oheb Shalom Congregation
Oheb Shalom has served the community since 1860, when it was founded in Newark in a building that's now a historic landmark. When it opened in South Orange in the '50s, it had established its conservative character. Mark Cooper is the rabbi and Erica Lippitz is the cantor. There's a volunteer choir that performs at High Holy Day services and other special events. Mickey Fried Nursery School is located in the temple. There's also religious education. The Zeman Religious School is broken down for grades K-3 and 4-7; there's ETGAR (Hebrew for "challenge") for teenagers. There are also Adult Education programs with courses on topics like the Torah and Yiddish Literature and Culture.
