Earlier I did a post on what is Common Core and my feelings. See Johanna Wright for BOE Position On Common Core Standards
Today I came across the official position of Johanna Wright on Common Core for South Orange Maplewood Click Wright for BOE Common Core and I do say I agree. As for my (Johanna Wright) position: on Common Core
I don’t want you to be the parents who have to look at your child and say to them, because they are in this school district, they must be prepared to accept lower standards for a while. I did not have to tell that to my daughter when she was going to school in this district. I didn’t tell this to children I taught in this district either. And I certainly don’t expect a board member to face us as a community and tell us to be prepared to accept lower standards.
If they are indeed leaders, why are all three of my opponents telling the community to follow a path that has problems? Shouldn’t we with the evidence now coming from other school districts and states, some of which have implemented the Common Core, rethink if this is still the right solution for our district? We don’t need another NCLB.
