Have you Heard About Quidditch or the HornTailed Horcruxes?

One of the great things about South Orange NJ is Saturday and Sunday mornings.  After a week of working hard, running out the door to work, getting kids to school and back, plus everything else we do, Saturday mornings are like a reprieve and a chance to catch up on what’s happening in the town.  This weekend of course I run into what is always happening in one form or another, the kids, our schools and the community.

This weekend, there was the HornTailed Horcruxes Quidditch team selling books to secure funds so they can make it to the Quidditch regional championship. Not having any idea what Quidditch is or was and not being a Harry Potter fan, I did not know what they were talking about.  They explained something about a game where the brooms don't fly, but you still need to ride them in order to play.

If you are into traditional sports and if you don’t know what Quidditch is, try this description I found in The Setonian on the Quidditch World Cup 2011 By Chelsea Catlett .

For those who haven't heard of the wizarding world's most popularsport, Quidditch is played on flying broomsticks and with four balls. In the "Harry Potter" books, each team has seven players: three Chasers, one Keeper, two Beaters and one Seeker.

Uh yeah makes sense , I think ...lol

Chelsea further wrote: From an outsider point-of-view, the sport of Quidditch is just a part of J.K. Rowling's over-active imagination – where people run around on brooms and attempt to catch a golden ball no bigger than a walnut.

But for those who have dedicated their time, energy, and heart, Quidditch is just as real and demanding as any other sport. With a faithful, ever-growing fanbase, Quidditch will soon be on the rise.

I did some more research and here’s a few video links about Quidditch and it's history.

As stated I was intrigued to find out that our own Seton Hall is well involved with Quidditch as Setopn Hall Staff  Writer  Natalie Rebisz wrote on September 26, 2013 in this article:  Harry Potter club charms campus - The New Jersey State Representative for the International Quidditch Association, Marina Montenegro, has joined magical forces with students Daniel Britt, Corey Kientz and Marisa Murray to run the first Harry Potter Club on campus.

So, I guess Quidditch is on the rise and you can catch up with the group that was raising funds on:

So check out Quidditch yourself and give the team some support, stop by their regular Quidditch practice on Sunday from 1-3 PM in Groove Park, South Orange NJ.

Who knows, you may get to see folks flying on magical brooms!
