ORANGE SCHOLAR TO STUDY ABROAD

Award recipient enrolls in international program 

Eboni Carter, A high school student from Orange Township, NJ has been awarded the Congress-Bundestag Youth Exchange (CBYX) Scholarship, which involves a year of study and cultural immersion in Germany. The program is operated under funding by the U.S. Department of State and administered in the Northeast United States by AFS-USA, a worldwide nonprofit student exchange organization. Eboni is one of 50 students in the Northeast to receive this prestigious scholarship and will spend the 2013-2014 academic year living with a German host family while attending a local high school. The Mayor of Orange Township, Dwayne D. Warren, Esq., said, " Eboni is an example of the high caliber of young people we have in Orange. I am proud of her and celebrate as she raises the bar of achievement. Her success serves as an inspiration to all of our children. I want all of our young people to broaden their horizons by taking advantage of these once in a lifetime opportunities."

The Honorable Donald M. Payne, Jr.,representative of New Jersey’s 10th district, observed,  "It is with great pride that we celebrate Eboni's achievement in the halls of Congress and throughout the 10th Congressional District. I will proclaim not only Eboni's accomplishment but I also recognize the unwavering support of the Carter family, enabling Eboni to succeed at such a high level."

Eboni was selected as a Congress-Bundestag scholar due to her motivation, outstanding academic qualifications and openness to learn about other cultures. She will serve as a youth ambassador from the United States for the academic year participating in educational, cultural and political events.

Introduced under a Presidential initiative in 1983, the CBYX program aims to strengthen U.S.-German relations though citizen diplomacy and cultural understanding. The CBYX program sees the importance of youth ambassadorship as a means to strengthen these ties.
