The Youth Orchestras of Essex County, the longest-operating youth orchestra in New Jersey, will hold its annual spring concert at SOPAC (South Orange Performing Arts Center) on Sunday, May 18 at 4 pm.
Talented young musicians aged 7 – 18 from our area, including many from Maplewood-South Orange, will be playing beautiful music in this concert. In addition, South Orange student Hank Mecinski will be performing a violin solo with the Essex County Symphony Orchestra. He won this spot through a competition held earlier this year within YOEC. Also winning a solo spot was Jessica Rossilli of Livingston; she will be playing saxophone with the Junior Orchestra.
Three symphonic orchestras are joined this year by the ABC ensemble; this group explores the joys of music from around the world, allowing the musicians the opportunity to play non-traditional instruments on pieces that are “Anything But Classical”.
Tickets are $5 for children, $15 for adults, with special VIP tickets available in the best seats in the house for $50, with a $35 tax deduction.
