The Bobrow Kosher Food Pantry at Oheb Shalom Congregation in South Orange and the Jewish Family Service of Central NJ (JFS Central) Food Pantry in Elizabeth have served an unprecedented number of people — an average of 400-500 individuals a month.
The pantries have received and responded to more than 1,000 requests for emergency food this past year. With emergency food requests increasing and government funding decreasing, the kosher food pantries need additional donations to keep stocked.
To restock the pantries, the community is invited to participate in the 5th Annual Supermarket Sweep “FOODRAISER” on Sunday, March 3, at the ShopRite of Clark.
Using shopping lists available upon registration, participants will shop for the needed items between 2-4 p.m., and then meet back at the food pantries at 4:30 to unload, stock and celebrate with pizza, snacks (donated by ShopRite) and prizes.
There is a $5 entrance fee per team (families, individuals, or groups may register as a team). For contest rules, requested food items list, approved kosher symbols, and to register, visit www.jfedgmw.org/sweep or email or call Debra at firstname.lastname@example.org, (908) 288-2427, or Miriam at email@example.com, (973) 929-3165.
