MLK Day: What's Open and Closed in South Orangre

Here's a list of what is open and not on this federal holiday.

Monday is Martin Luther King Jr. Day, a day set aside to celebrate and honor the birthday of the slain civil rights leader. The holiday is celebrated at both the federal and state levels. Here's a list of what's open and what's closed on Monday.

State and local government offices are closed.

Courts are closed.

Financial and stock markets are closed.

Post offices are closed with no regular mail delivery.

Banks have the option to close.

Public schools in Maplewood and South Orange are closed. 

NJ Transit trains will operate on a major holiday/weekend schedule. Bus schedules vary by route, and some routes may be affected. For details, refer to timetables or check the agency’s website at njtransit.com or call (973) 275-5555.

PATH trains will operate on a modified weekday schedule. On days where a Modified Weekday Schedule is followed, service on all four lines operates on a 10-minute schedule.

The South Orange Jitney will be operating on a normal schedule.

Museums: Some are open with MLK programming and others are closed. Check before you go.

Libraries: South Orange Library is closed in observance of the holiday.
