Strut Your Mutt at Annual Canine Costume Parade

Essex County will hold two canine costume contests and parades.

Dog-owners and pet lovers will gather this Halloween weekend for an annual dog-costume contest and parade.

Strut Your Mutt, Essex County’s annual canine Halloween costume parade and contest, will take place on Saturday, Oct. 26 with two events.

The first parade will be held at 10 a.m., with a 9:15 a.m. registration, at Essex County Brookdale Dog Park on Grove Street in Montclair.

The second parade will begin at 2 p.m., with a 1:15 p.m. registration, at Essex County South Mountain Dog Park on Crest Drive in Maplewood.

“The Essex County Dog Parks have become popular places for dog owners to bring their faithful companions.,” said Essex County Executive Joseph N. DiVincenzo, Jr. “In turn, the canine costume parades are growing into a favorite Halloween celebration for everyone to enjoy.”

“Whether you own a dog or not, we invite you to come see creative costumes worn by dogs of all breeds,” he added.

Strut Your Mutt is a free event and prizes will be awarded for first, second and third place in a variety of categories.
